another year down the tubes Well, it's been well over a year since I've had anything worthwhile to put here on ye olde front page of flamingkitty.com. I have had a few things in the tubes this past year, but mostly I've just been a lazy slob sitting on my butt playing video games, reading comics and pretty much obsessing on the little geek things I tend to obsess on. Check out The Heirs. I'd love to lay claim to the design, but their drummer (Jacob Cuthbertson) did all the hard work and I just put it all into flash and online. That site is growing, so it'll be a tad more robust than the current "shows" and "bio" section. What can I say? I work slow. Forkers Central continues to grow each day and has a pretty robust community of miscreants to boot. If you want some Forkers gear, head on over to the site and buy some stuff. I've still got an assload of shirts and pins, and we'll probably put together a few more shirt designs for the next year. 2008 will probably bring much of the same as 2007. I'll have some grandiose ideas about how I want to proceed with some crazy online project, but will sit on it for way too long and just forget about it. I guess that's just the way I function. war damn eagle. justin. 12/6/2007 2:51:22 PM Forking Diversity
Hi, it's me again. It really is interesting how I ignore this website like it were an annoying little sister. Honestly, I don't have much of an excuse. Sure I've been busy building stuff up for other people and working on the masterpiece that will turn into Forkers Central, but that's still not much of an excuse. Things here at the flamingkitty are going to change. It'll only be a minor thing at first (I need to get rid of that navigation at top, it annoys me more than amazes me these days), and more content will continue to appear here as a showcase of my amazing design skills (vom), but that won't be for a little bit. The Forkers myspace group is still going strong as a venue to expose people to the marvel of the tines, but we have really moved forward to make www.forkerscentral.com the place for all things forky. That brings me to more shirt stuff. I had new shirts printed in marvelous white on red (they are rather fetching) to compliment the now near sold-out run of black on grey. The red and white are much more "up in your face" than the other ones and really do look pretty damn cool. If you want a shirt (only $10 + $3.50 shipping), and you are familiar with the whole Paypal thing, you can use the form below. If you don't have a Paypal account (I can't take credit card payments through Paypal yet), you can email me at meow@flamingkitty.com and we can attempt to work out something that will work for both of us. Look for more kitty action soon. I almost have some new stuff to show you (yeah right). 7/14/2006 11:08:24 AM Where the hell did 2005 go?!?!?!?!
Wow, what a difference a year makes! I didn't really have anything against 2005, I just had other things going on that helped me neglect this site. Now, however, is 2006, and 2006 is all about progress and world domination (or a subtle mix of the two). Amazingly, the Forkers didn't die off in 2005; rather it grew in strength and pushed 200 members. Plus, it blew it up to the next level and is working to establish its own, independent, web presence at www.forkerscentral.com. 2006 will mean continued expansion of the Forkers' empire along with some changes here at flamingkitty (good ones I assure you). Forkers shirts are still available (see the blurb below if you want one; and I know you want one). We also have one inch Forkers badges/buttons flying their way to us right now. The fine folks over at Young American Comics provided me the awesome opportunity to get badges/buttons printed up and I couldn't resist. While you are over at their site ordering your own stuff to be printed up, be sure to check out their great comicbooks: The Mighty Offenders and The Snake Pit. I picked up The Snake Pit at Wizard World 2004 and have really loved it. I'll have purchasing details on the Forkers badges/buttons after I decide whether or not I just want to horde them all and make the ultimate "chainmail" Forkers hoodie or if I feel like sharing with others. OK, back to the shirt stuff. Once these shirts bounce their way out of my life we'll look into printing another batch with different colors. Remember, 2006 is the year of the Fork, and you'll want to jump on this trend before you are left in the dust. The black-on-grey shirt will probably never be printed again, so be sure and get one. Lastly, before I make this posting into a novel, I'd like to thank the fk posse for making 2005 such a wonderful year. We've had a miniscule amount of "hard times," but have really grown as people and have become quite the close-knit family. Our 2006 will only be better. BOMBARDIER!!!!! 1/3/2006 9:14:37 AM Fork The World!!!
OK, some of you may be familiar with the Forkers: a fork-appreciation group on MySpace that I founded on a whim (although some collaboration with The Spacklers was involved). Any-hoo, things got out of control really really quickly and the rolls have swelled. As a result, there is a party coming and shirts have already been printed: the delightful image of which you can see to the right. If you would desire a shirt (only $10 + $3.50 shipping), and you are familiar with the whole Paypal thing, you can use the form below. If you don't have a Paypal account (I can't take credit card payments through Paypal yet), you can email me at meow@flamingkitty.com and we'll work out something. Of course, I'll also be selling these beasties at the Forkers/Spacklers/Polyphonic Spree holiday party on Dec. 17, but you might want to reserve your size and quantity now (supplies are currently limited). Keep on Forkin'!!! 11/22/2004 2:53:11 PM smoked out of my hole Ok, so it's been like a year since I've written anything new for the front of this here website. Let's have a quick re-hash of what has been going on. 1. The PCS section is dead and has been buried. Apparently a bunch of LiveJournal knob-holes decided to steal my bandwidth by linking directly to the wee images I had as examples of what could be downloaded. Knob-holes ruin everything. 2. The flaming kitty BBS has really taken off (Ok, so there are like a dozen people who read it semi-regularly and even a few post). 3. The Pic-A-Day thing died a grisley death. Alright, sometimes it rears its ugly head and I actually post something (did you see the one about genetically engineered otters?), but I'm a fundamentally lazy person. If the picture doesn't jump right out in front of me and yell "Take me!," and I happen to have a camera at the ready, then pictures will magically appear on the list. I might have to get really motivated and do it daily again. 4. New websites are coming!!! Good Records is just about to a "squirt it out into the real world" point, and a new version of Some Big Lumberjack could visit us before the year is out. Both are worthy local causes that deserve our attention. That is all for now, but I can't guarantee this ranty thing isn't going to become a habit in the future. Just because I'm the last human on the planet who interfaces with a computer on a regular basis to not have a blog, doesn't mean I'm not going to get wordy at times. Carry on. justin. 10/6/2004 12:44:47 AM Damn The Torpedoes... It's New Navigation!!! OK, so I got really bored and decided to make an almost useless navigation interface using Flash. It will take some getting used to, but almost everything is still there. I've removed the old monophonic ringtones because enough people were too moronic to enter in their phone information correctly, and because I haven't had a phone that supports those tones for almost two years. What's the point in supporting something that causes more headaches than needed and ultimately no enjoyment? Anyway, here is the new insanity. It will probably be tweaked a couple of times in the next few weeks, but you get the general idea. justin. 11/4/2003 2:15:57 PM Yet Another New Toy Well, going with my apparent tradition of posting on the "day" of the "month" (5/5, 7/7), I've waited a few days to announce my newest project. In the navigation above you will now see a link to "Pic-A-Day." This is my latest go at having a bit o' fun and also my attempt at becoming a bit more aware of everything that is around me. (Also, our digital camera has been gathering a bunch of dust lately.) So, there should be a new picture everyday. The handy dandy calendar interface should be pretty easy to understand, so enjoy. justin. 8/8/2003 10:16:59 AM New Toy!!! In my little contribution to the "embetterment" of humanity, I have opted to create my own little list of recommended books. This new feature (to the left of this blurb, below the "Heavy Rotation" feature) is a pretty good reflection of the books I've been reading through for the past couple of months. New books will be added all the time, so stay tuned to see what you should be reading next. If you have suggestions as to books I should read next (my list of unread titles gets shorter every week), please email me at meow@flamingkitty.com or use the feedback button above. Enjoy! 7/7/2003 2:51:17 PM What is the world coming to?!?!?!? Well, this is my second post in less than a week. I must be getting motivated. Anyway, flamingkitty.com is proud to present our new BBS for your general use and exploitation. You can browse the posts all you want without registering, but, in order to actually post your thoughts, reviews, etc., you'll have to go through the mostly painless registration process. Have fun! justin. 5/5/2003 2:26:31 PM Genji no jidai no kyuuketsuki!!! Ok, so things have been more than a little dead around here. I know four months without a visible update is a little shoddy, but there really just hasn't been anything to update. Sure, more and more stuff keeps popping up on the "Heavy Rotation" list and I'm constantly adding things to the PCS portion of the site, but nothing much more than that... until now. In my history of supporting the bands that I absolutely love, I have teamed up with Chris over at Horrorwood to replace his ailing BBS system for Balzac's official US website. If you don't know who Balzac are, they are definitely worth a listen. Summed up as the "Japanese Misfits," Balzac easily won my heart by not only releasing good music, but teaming up with Medicom Toys of Japan to release a series of toys I just can't live without. Hopefully I'll port this BBS over to this site soon, but, until then, I'll pretty much be parked over at Horrorwood haunting that one. Support your local fiend. justin. 4/29/2003 1:29:14 PM voices from beyond the grave... So, it turns out I'm not dead: just really, really negligent. I'm still having some degree of idiocy with certain people and the ringtones, but the volume of bad emails has gone down significantly, so I'll keep the darn things up for a while longer. On that note, I have up and moved away from the whole "Nokia" thing and have moved on to bigger and better polyphonic ringtones. If you don't have a phone with polyphonic ringtones, you really don't know what you are missing. I actually enjoy listening to my phone ring now. Anyways, these ringtones (and a couple of phone wallpapers) can be found by pointing your web-enabled phone to "http://www.flamingkitty.com/pcs". If you want to preview what I have offered, just point your regular web browser there and see the sights and hear the sounds. Just in time for the new year, I am now able to offer up flamingkitty.com tshirts. Through a wildly amusing arrangement with PixelTees, anybody can make shirts in the "pixel-y" style I love. Just go to "http://www.pixeltees.com/shop/meowflamingkitty/" to get your flamingkitty.com shirt today. Neat things are in the tubes for 2003. I'm hoping to get my random public photo gallery up and running, as well as offer a few options in the way of screensavers. Also, more ringtones will be developed and other mirthful toys to make your flamingkitty.com experience an enjoyable one. Be good. 12/17/2002 4:13:42 PM ringtone solution Well, the idiots who don't know how to use their phones have finally driven me to do it...The ringtone section is partially locked down. The process is still relatively easy enough, but now I hopefully won't be getting hundreds of rejected emails and hate mail from some of America's favorite cellular service providers. The new process is pretty simple. The only thing different is that you have to get a confirmation number before you can download any ringtones. Just follow the instructions on the ringtones flyout page and you will be set to go. Anybody having problems with it just email me and I'll see what I can do to fix the issues. Mind you, I am still logging all requests for confirmation numbers and ringtones, so if the previous problems persist, other actions might need to take place. Also, other ringtones are on their way, I've just been a bit lazy in getting them fully converted and tested. Enjoy. 9/10/2002 12:04:36 AM Minorly Miffed Ok, I'm a mostly patient man with a pretty good sense of humor, but lately the number of bad ringtone download attempts has pushed my good-humoredness (I'm not sure if that is a word, but I'm using it here!) to the limit. I guess my biggest complaint is that people really don't know the email address of their phone before they start plugging away at the ringtone sender. Listen folks, everytime you screw up your email address I get between 8 and 10 emails from your provider (or whatever domain you put in) saying the messages that make up the ringtone can't be delivered to you. In the past month alone I have logged almost 300 bad emails. What this means is that useless emails (even worse than spam in my opinion) is being generated and sent to my inbox. I don't like it. More importantly, my provider is growing very unhappy with the excess drag these emails are placing on the mail system. Solution time. I'm going to give you folks the benefit of the doubt for another week. I'm going to trust you to TRY OUT YOUR EMAIL ADDRESSES ON YOUR OWN before you put that fated email address (which I log) into the ringtone sender form. If the bad mail keeps getting generated I will spin the wheel and choose from one of three options I have developed. 1. The easiest option. Remove the ringtones from the site completely. 2. Put into place a confirmation step that would email a generated number or password to your phone before you could start downloading ringtones. 3. Post the cellphone numbers of the heavy offenders (You folks unsuccessfully trying to download the "God Called In Sick Today" tone 8 or 9 times in a row). Two of those three options are moderately nice approaches to the problem. The third, however, seems to be my current favorite. Like I said before, I'm starting to get pissed off. It's really up to you folks to decide. I enjoy providing these ringtones and I even have a few more that I'm getting ready to put up, but if there is going to be a problem then I really need to do something about it. I don't want to be the badguy, but something has to change. 8/25/2002 6:15:40 PM Like I have an excuse or something... OK, so I've been slacking on all the updates. It's not like anybody actually reads this slop. Things have been very busy around here (not that you could tell by looking). As usual, the "Shows Worth Seeing" section is in constant update, and I've been pretty good about updating the "Heavy Rotation" (did anybody notice that if you click the band name you go to their website?), but besides that flamingkitty has just sort of stalled. I'm still threatening putting up that review section (as soon as I write the darn thing), and I'll probably throw together a piccie gallery or something of that ilk. What's been keeping me busy as of late has been a little project thrown together by and for the Despair Faction, the fanclub side of AFI's website. If you want to know what it is, you are going to have to join the club to find out. Also, "Jet Set Radio Future", "Lost Kingdom", "Star Wars: Jedi Starfighter" and "Blood Omen 2" have sucked up a majority of my time. For those waiting for another screensaver, I have one done, but for legal reasons I'm not releasing it to the public (Let's just say it involves a certain small green copyrighted resident of Dagobah). I'm still working on one that I can put out. I'm hoping more stuff will come soon. 6/25/2002 9:18:02 AM Holy Crap...New Stuff!!! Ok, so I've been a bit negligent over the past month or so (Like I have a real excuse). Regardless, new stuff is nigh. A snappy version of The White Stripe's "Hotel Yorba" now resides in the ringtone section, so download away. In other news, a concert/music review thingy (is that a technical term) is definitely in the works. I really started thinking about this after last week's Alex Can't Sleep show at Spider Babies. Bryce gave me a copy of their record after their pretty damn good (albeit short) set, and it's been in my heavy rotation ever since. So, this got me to thinkin' (dangerous): how else can I push my tastes on others? That's where the review section rolls in. It'll happen...you'll see. 3/14/2002 5:23:14 PM Those People Ok, so I've become one of "those people." You know the type...people who put up a website and let it stew with the same lackluster content forever and ever. I'd like to say that I have an excuse, but I've really just been playing alot of videogames and sitting around staring at the wall a lot (believe me, it's more fun than you think). On the plus side, all gamers out there with access to a PS2 should immediately go out and try your hand at "Soul Reaver: Legacy of Kain 2" the first chance you get. For those familiar with the "Legacy of Kain" franchise, it isn't nearly as challenging as the first "Soul Reaver" game, but the cinematics and texturing are very well done, and the storyline is better than many of the crappy sequel series movies being put out these days. All I have to do now is finish up Rogue Squadron II (easier said than done), and then I'm off with Final Fantasy X (I'm sure that will be a gigantic productivity suck). On the plus side, I believe I've almost become inspired to put out another screen saver (see astroblast.com for the first one). I'm not really sure what the content of this screen saver will be, but I guarantee that it will be entertaining. Look for more stuff soon. 1/24/2002 8:53:51 AM more uselessness!!! It appears that I only manage to get around to updating my own website once a month (or so). As you might notice, I've added a "Heavy Rotation" section to the right. This is just a lame attempt at showing everybody what I'm listening to right now. Believe me, it changes frequently. I'm still working on more ringtones and ideas for more improvements to this and the other sites I throw together. Unfortunately Final Fantasy X comes out very shortly, and I still have Soul Reaver 2 and Rogue Squadron II to pile through. Progress on the website will be determined by how frustrated I get with the console gaming. Until the next update...enjoy. Oh, feedback is appreciated. 12/17/2001 1:32:20 PM ringtones!!! Well, I've managed to get bored enough that I'm disassembling midi files and creating fantastic custom ringtones for evil cellular phones. As you might have noticed, there is a new little "gem-bar" on the left side of the screen entitled "Ringtones". Click on that puppy and you will be able to download a couple of ringtones for your Nokia 3360/5165/7160/8260 phones. I'm working on offering up the ringtones for a variety of other phone formats, but since I have a Nokia, you folks will have to make due with just those for now. Currently we're only offering two rings derived from AFI songs, but others will follow as the mood strikes me. Enjoy! 11/14/2001 11:25:15 AM launch Well, this appears to be a substantial launch for flamingkitty.com (finally). After sitting around for well over a year doing nothing but stress about the design of others' sites, waiting for the creative juices to just dry up and blow off with the dust, flamingkitty.com has a front-end that isn't the drowning monkeys. Not that pixelated monkeys isn't funny content (believe me, they aren't gone forever), but we wanted something that would make people want to come back to flamingkitty.com every so often just to see what was different. Believe me, things will continue to "become different." As noticed to the left, we have a list of concerts we deem "worth seeing" in the DFW metroplex. The functionality of this toy is mostly selfish: it lets us know when we need to hit the ticket window again. There has even been some thought of developing a review section for those shows that roll off the current calendar, but that will come later. If you have any questions, comments, etc. or just want to rant at us, drop us an email at meow@flamingkitty.com. We enjoy the attention. 11/1/2001 2:27:53 PM
